Monthly updates on generative AI innovations

  1. In 2023, a book titled 'Generative Artificial Intelligences to 2023' was published, aiming to compile the most important generative AIs. However, the rapid development in this field led to the release of a follow-up book, 'Generative Artificial Intelligences 2024', just six months later.
  2. The continuous emergence of new generative AIs and improvements in existing ones made it clear that annual or even semi-annual publications were insufficient. This realization led to the decision to launch a monthly publication called 'Boletin sobre Novedades de IA Generativa'.
  3. The first issue of this monthly bulletin was released in early September, covering the most impactful and controversial developments in generative AI from August, without attempting to include every single update.
  4. The bulletin features 12 articles, with the first discussing an update to the generative AI presentation tool Gamma, which now supports uploading files like PDFs and PowerPoint to generate presentations.
  5. Another significant development covered is the emergence of a new generative image AI called Plux or Flax, which is challenging existing models like DALL-E 3 and Midjourney. Flax 1.0 is gaining traction, with some tools replacing DALL-E 3 with Flax 1.0, including Gamma.
  6. Flax 1.0, being open-source, offers the advantage of incorporating text into images, similar to Ideogram. Ideogram has also advanced to version 2.0, offering new styles, improved images, and better text inclusion capabilities.
  7. The bulletin also presents an article on a Chinese AI called Clin, which is positioned as a potential competitor in the generative video AI space.

Advancements in generative AI models

  1. The bulletin discusses the release of Mistral Large 2, a new language model with 23 billion parameters, offering advanced reasoning, knowledge, and coding capabilities. It is multilingual and features a context window of 128,000 parameters.
  2. Llama 3.1, another language model from Meta, is highlighted for its 105 billion parameters. Released at the end of July, it competes with models like GPT and Claude.
  3. LM Studio, a useful application for integrating language models locally, has launched version 0.3. It allows users to upload large files, such as a 16MB PDF with around 400 pages, and works well with Llama 3.1 and Google's smaller model, HM.
  4. Google's image generation tool, Image FX, is now publicly available after a long wait. It is being integrated into other generative AI tools like Nik Caf, which also includes FL or Flux.
  5. The bulletin presents examples of images generated by various tools, including D3 and Flags, showcasing details like wrinkles on a woman's face. Leonardo is another image generated using Nik Caf's tool.
  6. Google's new model, HM 2b, with 2 billion parameters, is introduced. It is shown to outperform models like GPT 3.5 and Mistral in chatbot comparisons despite its smaller size.
  7. A new tool, P Lumen, is introduced for generating images using Flags. It includes examples like a young woman holding a sign that says 'I am not real.'
  8. Flags, similar to Idean, allows text incorporation in images. P Lumen and PFinder provide examples of free image generation with text.

Generative AI tools for creative applications

  1. The text introduces a powerful web tool that utilizes generative AI to create applications from simple prompts. For example, by inputting 'Tetris game,' the tool generates a Tetris game along with the HTML code needed to embed it on a webpage.
  2. The tool can also create various applications such as a radio tuner or animated images. Users can input prompts like 'giraffe' to generate animated images of giraffes, or create simple quizzes like identifying countries from flags.
  3. The bulletin highlights the use of another image-generating tool, flpr, which is used to create high-quality images for potential use in future bulletin covers.
  4. Vercel's application, v0, is also discussed. It is similar to the web tool and allows users to create HTML5 applications, such as a YouTube channel player with multiple channels and video switching capabilities.
  5. The text describes a YouTube channel named 'Interactive Books' where videos about generative AI are published. It also mentions other channels featuring 360-degree videos from National Geographic and other locations like a river in Canada and Chichen Itza in Mexico.
  6. The bulletin concludes with a quiz generated using the v0 tool, demonstrating its capability to create educational content with simple prompts.

Launch of Generative AI newsletter

  1. The first edition of the newsletter 'Novedades IA Generativas' has been launched, focusing on the latest developments in generative artificial intelligence.
  2. This publication is part of the efforts by the Red Educativa Digital Descartes to disseminate information and updates in the field of AI.
  3. The newsletter aims to provide readers with insights into new technologies and methodologies emerging in the realm of generative AI.
  4. It serves as a resource for educators and students interested in understanding and leveraging AI technologies in educational contexts.
  5. The content is designed to be accessible and informative, ensuring that complex AI concepts are explained in a clear and engaging manner.
